I know where my car is.”
But that’s not really what the mirror’s primary job is.
The car is already around me.
I can see parts of it directly.
I know where the driver’s seat is.
I know where the hood is.
I can see the vehicle through the windows.
I can feel where I’m sitting.
The mirror is most valuable for showing me things I can’t see directly.
Other vehicles.
Motorcycles.
Bicycles.
Objects approaching from behind.
Traffic beside me.
That’s the information I can’t get just by staring forward.
