no label at all.
I opened it.
My signature appeared on several documents.
One page was titled:
LIMITED PROPERTY AUTHORIZATION.
I read every line.
Then read it again.
According to the document, I had authorized Grant Mercer to act for me in certain matters involving my house.
The signature was mine.
Real.
But I remembered signing that signature beneath an entirely different page.
Someone had replaced the paperwork.
Underneath sat a preliminary deed package.
And below that, in Grant’s block handwriting:
FRIDAY—RECORD AFTER BANK CLEARANCE.
Friday was three days away.
